Wireframe:

During this process first there were video lectures than the buttons. But it was observed that users didn’t scroll through to see other buttons hence the change of design.

Key Challenges

  • Typography

  • As it was a self project, the breeds of pets of various kinds was an issue, there was research involved but not much of a challenge

  • As it can be observed the mockup is a lot different compared to the wireframe, this happened in the process of coming up with a more user friendly design.

Usability Study:

During the usability study of this app, I came across many types of animal lover. Some of them had space for a pet, few wanted to volunteer on weekends while some of them wanted to donate for helping their nearest shelter meet the daily needs and treatments of the ones living in shelter.

So the main plan was to help all of them with one solution.

Usability study: findings

Round 2:

  1. Users were sure that they have booked the appointment.

  2. Participant found the donation option on their own

  3. Participant appreciated the prescence of both dark and light mode.

Round 1:

  1. Users were not sure if they have booked the appointment.

  2. Participant couldn’t find the donation option on their own

  3. Participant didn’t have any issue reading.

Accessibility consideration:

  1. Clear change of icon colours when moving pages to show which page the user is on.

  2. Animation time for change of pages is 300-500ms ensuring that change is neither too quick nor too slow.

  3. Use of contrasting colours for ensuring better visibility .

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the animal shelter app case study highlights the importance of user-centered design principles in creating a seamless and meaningful user experience. By understanding the needs and goals of both the animal shelter staff and potential adopters, we were able to develop an app that addresses their pain points and enhances the adoption process.

Through user research and iterative design, we identified key features and functionality that would streamline the adoption journey, such as easy search and filtering options, detailed animal profiles, and a simplified application process. By implementing intuitive navigation and a visually appealing interface, we aimed to create a delightful and engaging experience for users.
